About C.A.P.R.I.
The Saturday program, C.A.P.R.I. (creative arts programming and rehabilitation instruction) was developed to provide youth and young adults, the life skills necessary for successful community integration. The focus is on self regulation and the ability to understand and/or feel the body/mind connection. The creative arts, language arts and body therapies ground the curriculum. The facilitator, Susana Van Bochove B.F.A., M.Ed., is a cognitive behavioral therapist and believes strongly in the clinical aspects of using creative arts in achieving the goals of treatment.
2. Expressive Arts through Drumming Weekend
Facilitated by Terri Segal & Share Claire
Explore, express, and expand your natural rhythms through drumming, creativity, and play. No previous drumming experience is necessary. Drums and art materials are provided.
* Learn basic hand drumming techniques, traditional rhythms and songs, develop improvisation skills and build confidence playing in a group.
* Experience the interconnection between drumming and other art forms such as movement, voice, visual art, and journaling.
* Develop an understanding of group music-making: listening, empathy, group process, relationship, and interdependence
* Experience the therapeutic value of music as a tool for self-expression, self-care, and stress reduction
* Gain new tools and exercises to use in your own personal life and/or with the clients you work with

3. Drumming in Creativity, Self-Expression and Play Workshop
In this experiential, interactive, and hands-on workshop, you will learn basic hand drumming techniques, World rhythms and songs, develop improvisation skills, and build confidence playing in a group.
Experience the interconnection between drumming and other art forms such as movement, voice, and visual art. Engage in fun rhythm based warm-ups, cooperative rhythm games, and facilitated music-making, while at the same time increasing group cohesion, releasing stress, developing listening and communication skills, and deepening connections with group members.
Through arts-based reflection and group discussions, you will have opportunities to explore how the music-making process relates to your self, to others, and to community. Experience the therapeutic value of drumming, creativity, and play. Emphasis is placed on the process of music and art making rather than on a final product. No previous drumming or artistic experience is necessary and drums are provided.
